Kit Review
This is a limited edition kit from Eduard, depicting the Mk VIII for the first time in this scale.

Inside the box you will find two clear and ten dark grey-coloured sprues, two pre-coloured photo-etched frets, self-adhesive masks and two sets of resin main and tailwheels. There are enough parts in the box to make two complete kits, and being a special edition this one comes with a full-colour book all about the RAAF's use of the Mk VIII, written by well-known historian Peter Malone. The full-colour instructions take you though assembly over eleven pages and colours are highlighted throughout via the Gunze-Sangyo Mr Aqueous Hobby Color and Mr Color ranges. Breakdown of the kit is similar to the Mk IX, with an excellent combination of plastic and etched for the cockpit interior, although there are various additions and revisions to the kit parts to keep and eye out for throughout assembly, depending on what colour option/s you are building. The resin wheels depict the tyres with a block pattern tread and self-adhesive masks are included to make painting the hubs easier. Masks are also included for the canopy and to paint the roundel outlines for the camouflaged machines.

The kit offers thirty-two decal options, and they come with their own full-colour instruction booklet!

The decal sheet is printed by Cartograf and is of excellent quality with perfect register and colour density. There is also two separate sheets (we had three in our sample) containing complete sets of airframe stencils.

Conclusion
A stunning kit, probably one for the serious Spitfire fan or the collector, but well worth adding to any collection, not just for the kits, but for the excellent book as well.

UK modellers can obtain this kit from Hannants (here), or you can visit the Eduard website directly (here).
