Airfield of the Luftwaffe Bombing Group
Kit Review
This is a reissue of their He 111H-3 first released in 2018 (#48261 and reissued with Rumanian markings as #48266 in 2020) with new decals and the ground equipment.
The kit parts for the He 111H-3 remain unchanged. The 'new' parts are their Luftwaffe Airfield Equipment set (#48409), which comprises a barrier and sentry box, A-frame and hoist, bomb lifter, steps, compressed gas cylinder and trolley, six wooden crateS, one open for the SC50 bombs inside, four 205lt oil drums and SC50Jb and Stg, SC250Ja and Jb and SC500J and 500A bombs (four of each). You also get the four figures and one dog from the German Luftwaffe Ground Personnel (1939-1945) set (#48229).
Markings
The HE 111H-3 retains the markings from its original release, so these are:
• A1+BH, 1./KG53, France, spring 1940
• A1+DA, Geschwaderstab./KG53, France, August 1940
• 1H+LH, KG26, Norway, spring 1941
• 1G+KN, 5./KG27, Russia, April 1943
All options are standard RLM 70/71 over 65, the second option has the formation white bars on the wings and rudder, whilst the fourth option has yellow theatre bands and wing tips.
The decals are beautifully printed, with perfect register and colour and they are very glossy. The sheet includes all national markings except swastikas, white formation markings, plus a set of airframe stencils and a decal for the instrument panel. There is also an additional sheet for all the stencils on the crates and bombs, along with the tail markings of those bombs.
Conclusion
This is a clever combination of kits to offer a 'diorama' set in a box and it can be highly recommended to all Luftwaffe modellers.
