Kit Review
This is a reissue of the Italeri tooling that originated in 1992 (#833). Inside the box you will find one clear and two light grey-coloured sprues offering 6 clear and 122 grey components. Surface detail is via raised lines and rivets and the detail in the cockpit combines raised details on the side consoles and instrument panel with the inclusion of seat belts moulded to each seat. Overall detail is acceptable, but basic and the side consoles look decidedly short? The whole upper decking/engine pod is a separate sub-assembly and you have long tabs along the joint to ensure that it all lines up, which is a good idea. Colour call-outs throughout are via Revell paint numbers only, there are no official names nor any FS numbers. Ordnance comprises AIM-9 Sidewinders, rocket pods are AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, with a combination of either missile type with the rocket pod for the two configurations on offer. The canopy is multi-part allowing the side panels to be posed open if you wish.
The kit includes three decal options: S/No.162571, HMM-163, USMC on USS Tarawa (LHA-1) in 1989; S/No.162537, VX-5 Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, 1988; S/No.162541, HMT-303, USMC, Camp Pendleton, July 1991. The first option is in black/green/grey, the second in light grey/blue-grey/grey and the third option is in beige-ochre brown; now you can see why official paint names and FS numbers would be so much more useful! The decals are nicely printed in Italy, they have good register and colour and include a mass of stencils for the airframe and ordnance. The carrier film is opaque though and the overall sheen to each image is satin.

Conclusion
A neat kit, basic and straightforward I can’t see it prosing a problem for any modeller, regardless of experience. The colour issue is an on-going one with Revell and whilst we understand their need to promote their own colours in their products, please, please, also include the correct colour name AND FS code number.
