First Kill'' Hudsons
Decal Review
This sheet offers markings for the following options:
• Hudson Mk I, '784' (ex-N7388) •Y, No.145(BR) Sqn, RCAF Torbay, Newfoundland
• PBO-1 Hudson, 82-P-9, YP-82, USN, Argentia, Newfoundland
• PBO-1 Hudson, 82-P-8, YP-82, USN, Argentia, Newfoundland
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW403, LM•S, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Chatham N.B.
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW617, LM•C, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Yarmouth N.S.
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW625, LM•L, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Yarmouth N.S.
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW616, LM•B, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Yarmouth N.S., August-Sept 1942
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW616, LM•B, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Yarmouth N.S., October 1942-February 1943
• Hudson Mk IIIa, BW624, LM•K, No.113(BR) Sqn, RCAF, Yarmouth N.S.
The instructions sheets offer a mass of narrative and photographic details for each option, with scale drawings for things like the radio aerial arrays etc. These are in B&W here, but colour versions can be downloaded from the Aviaeology website.
There are two decal sheets in this set, with each containing a selection of images, the main reason for the two sheets is one is just three colour, whilst the other is full colour, so it makes sense to do things separately to reduce the costs. All the images are beautifully printed with perfect register and colour and the carrier film is clear, glossy and does not extend much past any image. A few warning stencils unique to these machines are included, but there is not an overall set of airframe/propeller stencils included.
Conclusion
An excellent set with some very useful options, all we need now is a mainstream Hudson in 1/48th (and with Revell having done the Ventura, it surely can't be long before we have such a thing?) You can also get these options as a 1/72nd (#AOD72012, Can$12.99) sheet as well from Aviaeology.
Our thanks to Aviaeology for the review sample. Visit their website at www.aviaeology.com for detail on this and all their other products.
