'Flak Bait' B-26B Marauder
ICM continue to offer B-26 kits following on from their all-new B-26B (#48320) and its reissue with their USAAF figure set as #48088 in 2024. This edition depicts the well-known, high-mission total B-26B-25, 'Flak Bait'.
The contents inside the box remain as you will one clear and eight grey-coloured sprues, along with a new clear sprue containing separate upper canopy sections. The original base kit depicted the B-26B-55-MA built at the Baltimore factory, while this revised edition depicts the B-26B-25-MA made by Martin at their Middle River plant. It comprises over 350 parts and whilst the bulk of the airframe is unchanged, you do now use the main canopy section that was not used in the B-55-MA version, combined with those two separate upper glazed panels on the new 'H' sprue.
Colour OptionsThe kit offers only markings for 41-31773, 'Flak' Bait' of the 322nd Bombardment Group, but you do get this at four different time period; in England in mid-1943 and summer 1944, in Europe in the spring of 1945 and in Bavaria in the summer of 1945.
All options are Olive Drab over Neutral Grey and only the second option has invasion stripes.
The decals are beautifully printed, with perfect register and colour and they are very glossy. The sheet includes two sets of national insignia, one red-outlined, the other blue-outlined. A good set of stencils, walkway markings and a decal for the instrument panel are also included.
Conclusion
This is an excellent kit and one of a historically significant airframe that still exists today with the National Air & Space Museum's collection in the USA. It is most highly recommended to all USAAF modellers.
Our thanks to ICM (www.icm.com.ua) for the review sample, UK modellers can obtain this kit from Hannants here.
