Kit Review
This is a clever combination of existing toolings to offer this themed set.

Inside the usual slip-cover style box you will find the new-tooled Ki-21-Ia (#72295) and two of the existing Ki-27as (#72201). These are made up of one clear and five grey-colour sprues for the Ki-21 and one clear and two grey-coloured sprue for each of the Ki-27s. The surface detail is engraved, but only on the Ki-21, the Ki-27s have their surface detail raised The kits are much as they were originally, so the Ki-27s being older toolings suffer a bit from flash. The instructions have not been updated for the Ki-27s, so these are photographic, rather than diagrams.

Markings
The kit offers the following options for each kit as follows:
Ki-21-Ibs
• 60th Sentai, China, early 1939
• 58th Sentai, China, probably 1940
• 14th Sentai, China, late 1941
• 105th Kyoiku Hiko Rentai, presumably 1942
Ki-27s
• 1st Sentai Commander Toshio Kato, Nomonhan, June 1939
• 84th Dokuritsu Tutai, China, 1939
• 10th Tutai, China, April 1940
• 59th Sentai, 2nd Tutai, Nomonhan, June 1939
The decals are beautifully printed, with perfect register and colour and they are very glossy. The sheet includes all the unique markings for each option, including the red bands and strikes on the Ki-27s. There are a limited number of airframe stencils on the two Ki-27 sheets, the Ki-21 sheet also has a small number of stencils, but does have the decals for the main instrument panel etc.

Conclusion
This is a neat combination of kits and is highly recommended to all those building a themed collection on the Sino-Japanese War or with an interest in either aircraft type.

Our thanks to ICM (www.icm.com.ua) for the review sample, UK modellers can obtain this kit from Hannants here.
