Kit Review
Having done the A and C-series variants, ICM have moved on to cover the D-series with this first release depicting the D-1 version.

Inside the box you will find eight sprues of light grey-coloured plastic and two of clear plastic. Many of the parts will be familiar to you if you have built any of the previous A or C-series kits because ICM tooled this series from the start to allow a variety of potential versions to be created with the limited amount of messing about with new parts. Surface detail is via engraved lines, with little or no rivet detail and no attempt at any fabric-covered surfaces. All colour call-outs are via Revell and Tamiya paint ranges, plus the RLM codes and names are included, so you will be able to substitute your preferred range if you so choose. Once again a large chunk of the C sprue is not needed here, along with some smaller details on the D and E sprues and the main canopy parts on the clear F sprue. As with the A and C-series kits this version comes with engines, separate flaps and control surfaces and a nicely detailed interior, about the only thing missing are seat belts, it's that good. You will have to do some measuring and drilling though, as two 6mm diameter holes are needed in the underside (for the clear ports for the vertical cameras), but their centres are clearly shown in the instructions.

Markings
The kit offers four decal options:
• F6+DN of 5.(F)/122 in Russia during the winter of 1942
• 4N+MK of 2.(F)/22 in Russia during the winter of 1942
• A6+HH of 1.(F)/120 in Norway in the autumn of 1941
• 7A+KH of an unknown unit in Lybia in 1942
The first two options have winter white distemper of the base RLM 70/71/65 scheme, whilst the third is in the standard scheme and the fourth is in desert colours (RLM 78/79).
The decals are being beautifully printed, with perfect register and colour and they are very glossy. The sheet includes all national markings except swastikas, plus a set of airframe stencils and a decal for the instrument panel.

Conclusion
As with their previous A and C-series kits, the new ICM Ju 88s are THE choice for the type in 1/48th and this one is no exception. It can be highly recommended to all Luftwaffe modellers and our thanks to ICM (www.icm.com.ua) for the review sample. UK modellers can obtain this kit from Hannants here.
