L-39C 'NATO Trainer'
Kit Review
This is a revised reissue of the kit first released under the MPM label back in 2001 (as #48051). This time you get three sprues of medium grey-coloured plastic, one sheet containing two vac-formed canopies and tip pod caps, a small bag of resin parts and two frets of photo-etched with acetate film.
The resin deals with some of the shortcomings of the original injection technique, with things like the jet exhaust being a good example. The etched fret offers one unpainted, the other pre-painted and the big acetate film deals with the various instrument panel configurations for the four colour schemes. Surface detail is via fine engraved lines, and things like the inner undercarriage doors are moulded shut with the lower wing, as these only open during the retraction cycle of the undercarriage.

Colour Options
There are fours schemes in the kit.
• 'Black 10' of the Estonian Air Force in 2014, which were loaned to them by Latvia (this is the subject of the box art)
• 'White 0445', Flight Training Centre, Paradubice, Czech Republic, 2014
• 'White 0445', Flight Training Centre, Paradubice, Czech Republic, 2014 but with some of its upgraded parts still in primer
• L-39CM. 'Grey 5252', 2nd Sqn, <ixed Wing of Otto Smik, Slovakian Air Force, Silac AB, 2013
All colours are identified by GSI Creos (Gunze-Sangyo) MR Hobby Color and Mr Color paint numbers. The decals are superb, coming on a large sheet due to the complex yellow markings of the first option, all of which are supplied as decals. The sheet also includes a comprehensive set of stencils.
Conclusion
A very neat kit, not up to their current standards as far as detail etc., but this is over a decade old and they have come a long way in that time. The mixed medium nature of it, coupled with the complex assembly due to its limited status, makes this one for the experienced amongst you, but it is well worth seeking out if you fit the bill.
