Kit Review
Eduard released this version in their ‘ProfiPACK’ series back in 2013 but now it is available without all the etched in the simplified ‘Weekend Edition’ series. Inside the box you will find one clear and four dark grey-coloured sprues. Surface detail is via engraved lines and you get all the rivet detail also engraved. A number of parts are not used in this version and you have no photo-etched or resin parts but the level of detail in the kit parts is sufficient to make their omission nothing to worry about. In the cockpit you get decals to overlay the raised details on the instrument panel and you also get the excellent ‘Super Fabric’ belts made by HGW for Eduard; these are in all new Weekend Edition releases and are absolutely superb, especially if you don’t get on with photo-etched seta belts.
All colours are identified by the Mr Color range however these are quite easy to convert to the more readily available Mr Aqueous range. The only options in this version consist of the canopy open or closed, the engine and gun bay open or closed and the option to fit an ETC rack and 300lt drop tank on the second colour option.
The kit has markings for two aircraft: ‘Black 8’, 2./JG27, Ain En Gazala airfield, Libya, 1941 and ‘White 1’, flown by Oblt Karl-Wolfgang Redlich, 1./JG27, Ain En Gazala airfield, Libya, July 1941. Option one is in typical desert colours of RLM 79 over 78 with a mottle of RLM 80 on the upper surfaces, whilst the second option is in a day fighter scheme of RLM 02/71 on the upper surfaces and RLM 65 underneath with a mottle of RLM 71 on the fuselage sides. This machine also has the nose and rudder painted RLM 04. The decals are beautifully printed and include a separate sheet containing a full set of stencils.

Conclusion
Lovely, the Weekend Edition series is a must if you are looking to build a nice well-detailed kit from the box without the hassle of etched or resin parts. About the only thing they could do with are canopy masks, but at least with the Bf 109 all the frames are straight lines and thus easy to mask with a combination of Aizu tape and Vallejo masking fluid.
