Kit Review
This is a revision based on the mid and late G-series produced by AZ in late 2013.
Inside the box, you will find three medium grey-coloured sprues, all of which feature fine engraved detail. Construction is typical of the whole G-series from AZ and the interior has a nice tub with sidewalls moulded to the fuselage halves and a decal for the instrument panel. The use of printed seat belts cut out of the instructions hark back to the 1950s and Airfix, so I suspect most will prefer to use the superb new SuperFabric ones from Eduard, as they are more effective than flat paper but just as easy to use. The instructions call out all paints throughout assembly in reference to the Humbrol range, which should be accessible to all. You will need to make a slight modification to the radiator inserts in stage 14 of assembly, but the instructions show what needs to be trimmed. The instructions also show both the standard and the high wooden vertical tail unit, so decide before reaching this stage which colour option you want, as that will dictate which tail you install. You also get two styles of 300lt drop tank and the instructions correctly point out that the centreline ETC rack is offset to port slightly. The late style canopy is a single piece, so it can't be posed open, however there are enough vac-formed ones on the market that you can easily replace it should you wish.
The kit offers three decal options
• 'White 11', 'Rosemarie', II./JG52, Brno airfield, Czech territory, April 1945
• 'Yellow 11', 'Gigi', II./JG52, Lralupy nad Vitavou airfield, Czech territory, April 1945
• 'Yellow 19', II./JG52, Praha-Letnany airfield, Czech territory, April 1945
Note that option 2 will require a grey 'V' painting under the starboard wing tip, as this marking is missed off the decals.
The decals with the kit come on two sheets, the first has all the national and unique markings for each options, whilst the second sheet offers a complete set of airframe stencils.
Conclusion
A nice kit, with excellent detail and accuracy. The nature of production means this is not a mainstream kit, there are no locating pins etc., so this has to be considered as being suitable for the intermediate and above. Overall though a superb product and one we are sure Luftwaffe modellers will want to add to a 1/72nd scale collection.
