Book Review
This is the second part of their two-part coverage of the Imperial Japanese Naval operations from aircraft carriers during WWII. It comes in a hardback format of 380 pages containing over 500 images. The narrative is French throughout, as are all the photo captions. Coverage is split into three sections carrying on from the first part as follows:
Part 4 - May-June 1942, a period of change
1 - The Battle of the Coral Sea
2 - Midway, the turning point of the war
3 - Attack in the far north
Part 5 - The slow agony
1 - Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, Santa Cruz and Rabaul
2 - The Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands
3 - Operation I (I-Go Sakusen)
4 - Late reorganisation and disaster at sea in the Philippines
5 - The end of the groups
Part 6 - Other aircraft carriers and groups
1 - The escort aircraft carriers
2 - Aircraft carrier in the Imperial Army
These sections are all well illustrated with period black and white images of aircraft, carriers, operational bases etc., along with the occasional modern colour side profile.
The appendices list general information on aircraft carriers (1), take-off and landing - How were the Japanese doing? (2) and the names of Japanese aircraft carriers (3), plus more details on the types flown off carriers and a full bibliography.

Conclusion
Another superb book, and one that rightly needs to be with the first part. It is also highly recommended to all Japanese aviation fans and modellers. Our thanks to Lela Presse for the review sample, this should be available from specialist outlets in the UK, but if you have any problems visit their website www.avions-bateaux.com or email contact@avions-bateaux.com
