Xtreme Metal
We all know about Alclad II, we all probably use it regularly, but it is probably one of the smelliest products out there, and it does tend to get everywhere. There has been little alternative, until now...
From Spain we have AK Interactive's new 'Xtreme Metal', which is an enamel metallic, much like Alclad II, but without a lot of the nasties. We have tried this and it works, very well and is easy to use and does not stink the house/shed out. It is not identical to Alclad II in how it is used, I found you need to give it a good shake, then also stir it with a brush, then use that brush to transfer it into the paint cup; don't just pour it in, you get more carrier than pigment.
It went on lovely, did not pool and was safe on acrylic, enamel and lacquer base coats. I find Gunze-Sangyo Mr Finisher 1500 [Black] is the best for the darker shades and Chrome, or a neutral grey like H308 for the lighter ones.
The range thus far is quite extensive, not offering all the main shades in the Alclad II series, but nearly there.
Conclusion
This is certainly a product they is good, and with less of the anti-social aspects of Alclad, plus enamel is a known quantity and something I am sure most of you all started painting with, so it is as if enamel has caught up at last.
